SPECIALIST CLINIC FOR COSMETIC AND PLASTIC SURGERY IN WEERT (NL)

Acura Clinic

The Acura Clinic is a specialist clinic for plastic and cosmetic surgery and specialises in Liposuction and Lipoedema treatment. For more than 15 years, the Acura Clinic has been recognised as one of the leading providers of innovative cosmetic treatments in the Netherlands. When performing liposuction procedures, the clinic uses the LipoSelection® procedure from Vaser®.

The clinic is located in Weert, a small and picturesque town in the province of Limburg. Due to its convenient location in relation to Germany (Weert is just 25 minutes away from the popular outlet centre in Roermond), the proportion of German patients is around 50 percent.

The clinic’s medical team comprises 10 medical specialists who speak fluent German as well as Dutch, Belgian and French. The medical staff also speak fluent German.

Why go to the Netherlands for treatment?

Plastic surgery procedures are usually significantly cheaper in the Netherlands compared to Germany, although the standards of quality are just as high and the surgeons are just as competent and experienced. Thanks to its convenient location, the clinic can also be reached from numerous German cities in less than an hour.

Quality and safety at Acura

Generally speaking, the Netherlands is known for particularly low levels of microbial contamination in medical facilities (see also https://www.spiegel.de/spiegelwissen/krankenhaus-keime-in-den-niederlanden-sind-patienten-sicherer-a-1184260.html).

All treatment facilities, equipment and other resources at the Acura Clinic fulfil the strict requirements of the Dutch Healthcare Inspectorate. This is regularly checked as part of quality assurance and reported by means of internal inspections. Acura's operating theatre is thoroughly inspected and tested several times a year. Samples are collected from the ventilation system, before being tested and analysed.

Acura works with an independent hospital hygiene consultant (Hip Advies) and a certified body (Telstar-LUWA) to carry out these checks. The sterilisation of instruments and equipment is outsourced to the central sterilisation department of the Catharinaziekenhuis hospital in Eindhoven. These facilities are in turn subject to regular inspections by the health authorities, meaning that, here too, quality is always guaranteed.

As a member of the NVCG (Dutch Association for Cosmetic Medicine), Acura emphasises the goal of continuously improving the quality of and information regarding medical-cosmetic treatments.

Lipoedema treatment consultation.

During the initial consultation, interested patients are first informed by the attending physician regarding the course of treatment and the expected results. During this consultation, patients are also informed about the treatment method and possible risks and complications. To determine whether the liposuction offered by Acura represents a suitable treatment for the lipoedema patient in question, the physician will also enquire about the patient's general state of health and medical history.

Lipoedema treatment

Liposuction in cases of lipoedema is a highly specialised liposuction treatment. Fatty tissue and fluid are stored beneath the skin, usually on the hips, thighs and knees. The disease can be recognised by the fact that, in spite of weight loss, the areas remain fat.

Liposuction is performed under general anaesthetic. Before the treatment, photos are taken for the patient’s medical file. The areas to be treated are then marked.

Liposuction begins with the performance of small skin incisions (approx. 4 mm). An anaesthetic fluid is injected to soften the fatty tissue. Once this fluid has been absorbed by the tissue, the sound waves produced by the Vaser system liquefy the fatty tissue. The dissolved fat can then be suctioned off using small suction needles. This step is virtually painless.

At the end of the liposuction treatment, the small incisions are taped up and the treated area is bandaged and protected (e.g. with elasticated tights). This prevents bruising and swelling. The treatment takes about 1 to 2.5 hours, depending on the area and its size. As only a limited amount of anaesthetic fluid may be administered, two treatmentsmay be required in special cases.

Depending on the size of the lipoedema, 1 or 2 sessions are usually sufficient.
